:-)ah.. sleep. last week spencer gave us 8 straight hours out of the blue.. and then a couple of days later.. started waking up every single hour and napping horribly. growth spurt? probably... you're about 3.5 months now... they say growth spurts happen at 3 months and 4 months? then we also felt a tooth coming in.. upper left. teething too? well.. after a couple of days of angst.. we even tried a couple of spoons of rice cereal one evening... your night sleeping is getting better.. got 4.5 hours last night... and then of course it goes downhill from there. and now daddy is leaving for taiwan for a week and a half.. aaaagh! whatever will i do without him? you're still quite a handful... you need to be hald all the time.. and sometimes you cry even while being held.. and of course.. you are *heavy*... daddy thinks that audrey was easier than you... she needed to be held all the time too.. but she was like half your weight!

you're smiling a bit more.. i think there have been some laughs.. particularly after waking up well rested. you like tummy time.. you're starting to grab things... you love the bath every night... only thing that calms you down... you're wearing 9 month clothes... you're breaking out of your swaddle every night... you love watching tv... and um.. that's all i can think of right now...cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-75484630262786133782009-04-16T20:57:00.000-07:002009-04-16T21:05:39.741-07:00cio - again...little audrey... your sleeping in the last month got from awesome to terrible... it all started with some middle of the night screaming so daddy slept on the floor in the room with you.. once a week.. then every coupla days.. then every single day.. then needing to sleep on the floor next to daddy... then we introduced the toddler bed and that didn't work... so we got you back in the crib... then you started to need daddy in the room with you until you fell asleep... then also for naps... sigh. so we had to resort to letting you cry it out tonight. not something mommy can do at all.. left it all to daddy... mommy can't bear to hear your sobs. i suppose it didn't go all that bad.. you were asleep within about a half hour of crying.. now we have to wait until your middle of the night screaming for daddy and see how that goes... sigh. all this, and we're trying to transition you to preschool 2 days a week too... and who knows.. maybe your molars are coming in too.. and you've got this annoying 3 month old little brother who takes up time from mommy and daddy.. :-(cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-49497231860992123042009-04-15T20:55:00.000-07:002009-04-15T20:59:57.726-07:00an updatehm.. what's happened since the last post.. um.. well, in the last few days, spencer turned 3 months old... we moved you up to your crib.. and for the most part, you're sleeping fine... not through the night by any means.. but you have a good first and often second stretch with only minimal assistance :-) you weighed in at a whopping 16 pounds and 1 ounce at 3 months old... you're heavier now than audrey was at 9 months old!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-75121116088004478472009-03-28T05:56:00.000-07:002009-03-28T06:01:45.337-07:00a new bed... plop!since audrey's been crying and screaming in the middle of the night and needing daddy to go in and sleep in her room with her, we decided to have her try out her new princess toddler bed. you like it... but you've fallen out several times already. you sleep just like daddy.. tossing and rolling all over the place. and once you fall, you don't like going back in the bed.. and end up sleeping on top of daddy!

spencer - you've slept over 5 hours straight these past 2 nights! i hope that's a permanent thing! you're just about 12 weeks old.. heidi says rex started sleeping through the night at 11 weeks.. and i hear that sleeping 5+ hours straight is considered sleeping through the night.. so there you go! ;-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-66852027298973148622009-03-13T21:22:00.000-07:002009-03-13T21:28:32.273-07:00spencer is 2 months!and you weighed in at a cool 14 and a half pounds! little audrey didn't weigh 14 pounds until she was 6 months old! you have been sleeping relatively well these past couple of days.. since you got your shots at the doctors. audrey slept super well after getting shots as well... or is it that we now have you swaddled, sleeping on a vibrating bouncy chair, and playing highway sounds to you all night? you'll give me a 3-4 hour stretch.. then about 2 hours and 2 hours.. which basically takes me from 10 at night til 8 in the morning. you sure are fussy from about 7pm til 9pm tho.

audrey - you are super cute... but super high maintenance too.. you love wai-po, and drag her to play with you all the time.cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-61131050244250767872009-03-05T13:55:00.000-08:002009-03-05T14:04:38.875-08:00Spencer's longest sleep stretch so far...not yet 8 weeks old, and you slept 4.5 hours last night - yay! but after that you were up every hour or so... but then after you woke up, you took a 2.5 hour morning nap! you've been sleeping lots lately.. hope it's not because you are sick.. daddy's been deathly ill.. he stayed in bed and slept for practically 36 hours straight!

audrey - we went to art class at gymboree today to try it out... you wouldn't even pick up the paintbrush! and you would't touch the play-doh... you hate getting your hands dirty! :-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-74368234488069798032009-03-01T20:52:00.000-08:002009-03-01T21:16:50.143-08:00the kids are sick..audrey's been sick for about a week already.. we missed your mandarin class.. and haven't been to gymboree all week! poor little thing. but you love, love, love playing with wai-po.. so much so that you often go to her to play rather than mommy and daddy. i think that this 18 month to 2 years old stage is the *bestest* time. you are so cute.. you totally understand everything we say.. and you love getting attention by showing off your little tricks... rowing a boat, shing nian hao, dancing to the wiggles...

spencer... this last week was your sixth week.. they say peak fussiness happens at 6 weeks... so i'm waiting for things to start getting better.. but they just seem to be getting worse! maybe because you're a bit sick.. we used the reflux medicine for the first time.. it seems to calm you down.. sometimes you just spit up so much.. and other times you don't spit up much at all. and you have this typical evening fussiness that we didn't have with audrey. you cluster feed from like 6pm til 9pm.. you fuss.. you get all aggravated during nursing.. yet you nurse constantly during these three hours... you have lots of gas.. lots of burping and farting.. you sleep in a swing and bouncy seat at nights... i sure do wish you would start sleeping better... you are pretty regular though.. you typically sleep at 10am.. and 1pm.. 5pm... and of course there's the evening fussy period.

right now you are asleep on daddy, and we're watching tv.. that's what happens every night... :-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-46897960125940440212009-02-23T21:07:00.000-08:002009-02-23T21:21:54.200-08:00a weekend of activity... and getting sick!spencer is almost 6 weeks old now.. we went on our first shopping outing, and used the double stroller for the first time. spencer slept the whole time.. and audrey sat in her underneath seat for a bit before wanting to be carried. then we went to aunt jenny's for dinner. the next day, we went out to dim sum with wai-gong, wai-po, jo-jo, cousins kai and colby... and in the evening we went to john and shirley's place for dinner. spencer - you had the biggest poopy of your life.. big explosion.. guess it was to be expected.. you hadn't pooped in 4 days! audrey - you went straight for the cinderella tea set.. you just love playing with spoons and cups and plates!

mommy started feeling sick that day.. and that night - audrey - you woke up screaming and crying in the middle of the night. daddy had to go in and sleep with you.. he thought you had a nightmare.. but in the morning, you are congested and sniffly and just not feeling well.. poor little girl.

wai-po tells us that audrey just learned how to 'stomp your feet' (from the 'if you're happy and you know it...' song). and how to 'wo-wo so' (shake hands). wai-po is very good at trying to teach you new things. she's also very good at letting you have your way... ;-)

we learned "colors" in the mommy and me chinese class today... mommy has been trying to teach you colors since you were like 6 months old.. over a year later and i have yet to see that you actually get it.. ;-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-78065627916279438422009-02-20T20:19:00.000-08:002009-02-20T20:30:04.970-08:00fussy fussy spencer...is there really a six week peak of fussiness? i hope so... cause spencer is going to be six weeks in 3 more days... :-) on a grand scale, you're is actually a pretty good baby... but from about 6/7pm to about 9pm, you are awake and seem quite colicky. you get totally worked up.. seems like you want to eat and eat and eat.. but when i nurse, you start to flail and wail.. so maybe you just want to suck? the paci works somewhat. i made daddy go out and get gripe water for you... not sure it's working... plus we have mylicon for any gas discomfort you may be feeling.. i just don't know what might be going on.. :-( but after monday, i expect you to get less and less fussy! ;-) on another note.. you pooped today - yay! it's been 4 days since you last pooped.. i was getting worried! it was a smallish poop.. but a poop nonetheless... you're probably just good at absorbing all the breast milk nutrients.. not much waste :-)

we all went to studio grow today... your grandma played with audrey while you slept on mommy. audrey - you love playing kitchen and taking care of the baby dolls. you are super cute these days.. when you're not whining or crying or throwing one of your tantrums :-) you had a huge poop today too.. it even leaked out! and that's just one of the many poope you have each day.. ;-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-18914032681777707662009-02-17T13:13:00.000-08:002009-02-17T19:32:52.471-08:00sleep - the bane of my current existence..spencer - you had one of your worst nights.. so bad i had to wake daddy up in the middle of the night on a work night! you fall asleep... i put you down.. you wake up.. i pick you up.. you fall asleep.. i put you down.. you wake up.. that happened like 10 times... from 11:30 til about 4am.. when you slept for an hour and woke up again at 5am. grr. the night before was so good too. hrmph.

audrey on the other hand.. you slept beautifully from 7:30pm til 7:15am.. and then you play quietly in your crib until i come in to get you at 7:30.. beautiful.. you toss and turn and whimper sometimes in the middle of the night.. but we pretty much leave you alone until morning. naps on the other hand.. bad.. you sleep only a half hour! and wake up wailing!! you are napping now.. been down about 20 minutes.. we'll see how it goes! ;-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-3944125399264535302009-02-16T19:58:00.000-08:002009-02-17T13:08:32.163-08:00a new baby brother!ok.. it's been a loooong time.. so long, that a new baby brother has been born - spencer tsai! he's actually 5 weeks old already! audrey's blog posts were largely about sleep issues... well.. spencer is not the *best* sleeper.. but he seems to be better than audrey so far...! your stretches at night are about 2 hours.. i think i got almost 3.5 last night.. you cluster feed in the evening.. usually from about 7pm to 9pm... then daddy holds you while mommy gets an hour of so of sleep... then i feed you around 11/11:30.. it takes like an hour to get you back down... you're up again at 2:30/3:30... then again at like 6:30... that's the routine..! you actually should be sleeping more... at your one month doctor appointment, you weighed in at 11 pounds, 10 ounces.. that's how big a 3 month old is! i still can't believe that the 0-3 month old clothes i have are for babies up to 12 pounds! you are wearing 3-6 month clothes at 2 months.. while audrey is still wearing 6-12 month clothes at 19 months old! guess this is better than the other way around!

and speaking of audrey... you're so cute... yet can be quite whiney, often throwing little tantrums.. crying and we don't know why. you're not speaking quite as many words as other kids your age.. but you've got about 15-20 words.. let's see... here's what you're saying right now..

ba-ba (daddy - and your favorite phrase)
ma-ma (mommy - but it sounds like ba-ba)
di-di (little brother)
bay-bay (blanket - but it sounds like ba-ba)
bow-bow (pick me up - but it sounds like ba-ba)
bubbles
go-go (dog)
wa-wa (water)
wa-wa (socks)
ya-ya (duck)
puff-puff
moo
bye-bye
hi
night-night
row-row (row your boat)

okay.. gotta go for now.. spencer is on his feeding frenzy... i gotta go nurse him!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-77029574302200194112008-05-14T14:53:00.000-07:002008-05-14T15:01:22.213-07:00sleep.. wow! preggers? yea!what did audrey give me for mother's day? the ability to fall asleep on her own! wow. daddy agrees to be on baby duty for mother's day.. and what do yo do? you sleep for 10 hours straight.. and then didn't get up until 7:30! you didn't make daddy work at all! and then all of a sudden, i'm putting you down after your bottle awake.. and you manage to fall asleep all on your very own! i'm still shocked. it's so nice to watch you fall asleep.. many times without even a whimper! you wiggle a bit.. toss and turn a bit.. suck on your blankie.. and then.. asleep!

of course, naps are still a challenge. i'm still rocking you to sleep for the most part.

and guess what.. i took a pregnancy test and it was positive! i'm gonna have to take another one tonight just to make sure.. but a little brother or sister could be on the way in 9 months!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-3309371500215266442008-05-01T21:15:00.000-07:002008-05-01T21:31:58.384-07:00time away from mommy and daddy, crawling study, and more...april 19th.. you're finally crawling.. yay!! i've been waiting for this day.. you were always so frustrated that you weren't mobile.. and i was right.. you're so much happier now! and i was waiting for you to crawl so that i could take you to a crawling study conducted by the UCBerkeley Infant Studies Center. they created a visual dropoff covered in plexiglass, and see how babies react when mommies call babies from the other side. what did you do? you crawled right over the dropoff to mommy :-). if the glass wasn't there, you'd have dropped four feet... but i think you were smart enough to know that hey - there's a piece of glass here.. i won't fall!

and in the last week, mommy and daddy have finally gone out of the house without you! wai-gong and wai-po came to watch you one night while we went to see a movie - harold and kumar escape guantanamo. we snuck out while you were napping.. and came back right before bedtime.. you did so well.. didn't even cry! and then yesterday, mommy wanted to take daddy out to a nice dinner in mill valley for his birthday, so we left you with uncle james and aunt maya for a couple of hours. you had dinner with them, and played with your cousins colby and kai, while we were gone - you had such a good time.. i don't think you even missed mommy and daddy ;-).

a couple of days ago, we went to your friend kaelie's 1st birthday party. you had a good time.. you enjoy playing with other little babies. we met a 4 month old baby boy who was bigger than you.. and you're 9 months old! yes, you are a little one. in fact, the doctor wants us to go back in 6 weeks to get you weighed. you're only in the 45% percentile for height, and the 7th percentile for weight! but it's ok.. your cousin colby is little too.. :-)

next week, we get to go to colby's first birthday party.. and we're hoping that it will get warm enough to go swimming in the pool next weekend!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-50862989545425486312008-04-18T10:31:00.000-07:002008-04-18T10:33:22.596-07:00umm.. still napping?it's been 2 hours and 45 minutes! longest nap ever... wake up... wake up little baby... it's time to play.. and keep trying to get that crawl down!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-30678810011152440642008-04-18T10:00:00.000-07:002008-04-18T10:06:22.434-07:00sleeping through the night!finally - at 8.5 months..! daddy kicked mommy into the guest house 2 nights ago... after a night of crying for an hour and a half whenever mommy put you back in the crib. daddy was gonna do cry it out again.. he got all set up.. turned up the monitor full blast, kept all the lights on in the bedroom.. slept propped with tons of pillows.. set his alarm to go off every hour... just so he wouldn't sleep through your crying (daddy's quite a heavy sleeper). but lo and behold what happens? you sleep from 8pm to 6pm without hardly a peep.

we all thought it was a fluke.. so daddy kicked mommy out to the guest house again last night. you woke up and cried for about 10 minutes at 3am.. but fell right back asleep until 6am. and now you're napping in your crib as i blog... going on past 2 hours already! let's hope this becomes the norm!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-14412921274011416412008-03-14T12:48:00.000-07:002008-03-14T12:55:55.060-07:00No More Nursing.. and Crib Napping!Little Audrey.. I stopped nursing you completely about 2 weeks ago.. and you're doing just fine! Kinda sad 'cause it seems like you could care less if it was boob or bottle.. :-) I just gave you a bottle one day and you took it! And you're fattening up with the formula! Let's hope you are not any lower than the 25th percentile in weight at your 9 month appt. And now mommy can drink wine all the time again! :-)

Up until now, mommy had been holding or carrying you for all your naps. But yesterday, I tried putting you in the crib.. and again, you were a champ. Went down beautifully... just turned over on your left side (your favorite sleeping position), grabbed your blankie and dozed off. Alas, you only nap for 30 minutes in the crib.. but hey... it's probably better sleep than the 2 hours you get on my back as I wash dishes and run around the house with the tv blaring. Today is day 2.. and you are on nap #2 of the day... so far so goo.. it's been 25 minutes.. you typically wake up at 30 minutes on the dot... we'll see.... tune in tomorrow...!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-73895398260214443542008-02-19T21:06:00.001-08:002008-02-19T21:10:35.496-08:00longest sleep stretch ever so far!wow. last night little baby girl slept from 8pm to 4:10am! that's an over 8 hour stretch! i woke up a couple of times, anticipating her waking.. and at 3am.. had to go into her room to make sure she was still breathing :-). let's hope this becomes a trend... now - how to get you to sleep later.. waking up at 5:30/6am is too early for mommy... i'd love for you to sleep til at least 7am! you used to go 7:30 to 7:30.. but then again, you'd get up 10+ times between those times.. so i think i'll take the 5:30am right now.. ;-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-47377015368412606552008-02-18T20:59:00.000-08:002008-02-18T21:01:46.520-08:00back from LA!ah.. gone only for 2 nights.. but so glad to be back home! had dinner with tom and amy, and met with some people about getting some print/commercial gigs for little baby audrey :-) they said they like her cheeks (daddy!) and ears (mommy!). well.. we'll see if we can get any gigs... if so, we'll be back down in LA lots lots more!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-91945549769092980412008-02-16T20:21:00.000-08:002008-02-16T20:27:05.731-08:00in LA for the dayjason and i flew down to la for the day... had dinner with tom and amy tonight to celebrate their engagement.. greece in october - yay! baby girl really is a good little baby... sleep is hard... but she's pretty mellow. she slept most of the plane ride... then during dinner (at a restaurant that doesn't even have high chairs or booster seats!) she held out so well.. eventually fell asleep in my arms she was so tired... oh, and today for the first time, she started sucking on the pacifier! kinda late to start a bad habit... but hey, if she wakes up multiple times at night, and keeps on biting me when she nurses.. then she's not hungry and just wants to suck... so i'm all for the pacifier! anyhoo... now i'm in the eensy weeny hotel room with baby in the crib in the bathroom while jason is out drinking with his bud..cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-65859406200761671822008-02-14T20:24:00.001-08:002008-02-14T20:32:47.665-08:00First Night Out w/o Baby!6 1/2 months after baby.. jason and i have our first date night... on valentine's day! i can count the number of times that baby has been with just daddy on my fingers.. but she's never, ever, ever been without the both of us at the same time! i was dubious. my parents came over, and jason and i had dinner reservations at the early bird hour of 5pm. not that we don't love our little munchkin, but what a nice night to be able to enjoy dinner by ourselves :-). of course, i wanted to call and check in.. but jason wouldn't let me. we left a bottle, and all sorts of different baby food. we got home around 7:30.. poor little munchkin was tired.. but doing just dandy in my mom's arms. nothing to worry about. and i thought she would be screaming for mommy.. ;-) the tears started when we got home though.. i think it was - 'where were you? why did it take you so long.. i'm tired and wanna go to bed!' now jason wants to do this every week! :-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-76859722074508690432007-11-21T20:52:00.000-08:002007-11-21T21:02:01.548-08:00turkey day tomorrow and misctomorrow will be your first thanksgiving! daddy is basically single handedly preparing the entire meal for a dozen people. we're bringing out the fine china..and have been prepping since tuesday! daddy always loves looking for new recipes to create each year's thanksgiving feast.

we went to try to take holiday pics today... alas- no success. you cried and fussed and wouldn't smile for the camera... you'd only cry! :-( well.. we rescheduled.. mommy really wants some cute photos of your for holiday cards.. your little outfit is so cute!

you've given us some of the roughest nights we've had so far in the past several days... of course, there was one day that was the best we've had... you only woke up 4 times!! then yesterday, i think you cried and woke up like a dozen times! mommy always hopes for a good night each time we put you in the crib... please let it be a good night tonight...! we realized that some of the roughest nights were due to your teething... you're not even four months yet.. but you're definitely teething! poor baby girl.. first you have a cold for almost a month.. and now teething... it's no wonder you haven't been sleeping well...

on that note, you were pretty funny last night! you normally fall asleep while nursing.. but yesterday, you seemed wide awake! you would pull off and look at mommy and just smile. :-) then daddy took you to try to get you to sleep... but you'd just smile and laugh at him too! well.. at some point, daddy decided to put you in your crib wide awake... and then of course.. do the daddy thing.. which is to turn on every gadget in the crib.. you got the mobile going.. the vibration.. heartbeat sounds... and lo and behold.. you fussed for a few seconds.. and then closed your eyes and went to sleep! wow! mommy and daddy were stunned. of course.. you then woke up an hour later.. and then every hour after that for the rest of the evening... bleh. :-)

it'll get better.. i know it will...cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-3375146099366531612007-10-30T11:01:00.000-07:002007-10-30T12:03:45.399-07:00you rolled over!mommy decided to play more tummy time with you... i haven't been working your developmental skills much by carrying you around all the time, or putting you in the swing or bouncy seats! mommy put you on your tummy.. and guess what.. you rolled over! you did it a few times today... sometimes with some help... and i caught a couple on video for daddy to see when he comes home.. yay! :-)cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6284164530552204165.post-33313987429772320352007-10-27T21:45:00.000-07:002007-10-27T21:52:39.223-07:00the magic 3 month mark...you are three months old today! so many people talk about the 3 month mark... you are smiling more.. you are starting to grab at things... you love watching tv! everyone says you are such a beautiful little baby... and so alert for 3 months. sleep is still challenging.. but you've been sick. looks like you caught a cold back to back.. and have been sniffling and sneezing for what seems like several weeks already. mommy is so sad to hear your decongested breathing... and it's not like you can blow your nose to feel better. :-( i think that's why you've been so sleepy these past couple of days.. you've been sick. you slept a lot today as well. we just bought some vaporizers that will hopefully clear your breathing at night. and mommy is hoping for a repeat of last night... let's get some long sleep stretches baby girl!cherylhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12493661659323249665noreply@blogger.com0
